We are deeply saddened by the passing of Sheila Siddle, co-founder of Chimfunshi. We lose in Sheila a charismatic, dedicated, fearless and extraordinary person who had joy in life and could inspire others. Sheila inspired people with her stories, humor and quick wit. The unique woman with the big heart and gifted chimpanzee mother turned 90. She lived on Chimfunshi until her death on April 15, 2022. She founded, built and lived Chimfunshi with every fiber. She, along with her husband David, laid the foundation for everything Chimfunshi is today. We thank Sheila and David for their legacy to the world. Sheila, one of the world’s most dedicated chimpanzee rescuers, has passed away. With her death, the founding couple has left Chimfunshi. Their mission to take in, care for and provide lifelong care to rescued chimpanzees from around the world will continue.
Early on, David and Sheila made the decision to place Chimfunshi in a trust to ensure its continued existence beyond their deaths. Now is the time to fulfill that responsibility in their memory. The Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage Trust will ensure that the spirit of Chimfunshi lives on in the spirit of David and Sheila and that Chimfunshi will continue to develop and be an example of humanity, animal welfare and conservation.
