Adults, children and groups
welcome all year round

Chimfunshi is not a tourist destination. However, visitors and overnight guests are welcome as long as they fit in with the operations of the sanctuary, as the focus is on the welfare of the animals.

Visitors can observe the behavior of the chimpanzees in their outdoor enclosures, watch feedings by the keepers, and move freely throughout the grounds. Keep in mind that the grounds are very expansive. From the reception and visitor accommodations, the chimpanzee enclosures are 4-8 km away. Visitors must have their own transportation to explore the sanctuary.

Chimfunshi is located in the middle of a vast bush and grassland landscape right on the Kafue River in northern Zambia, 65 km from the nearest town of Chingola. The GPS coordinates of the reserve are: S12° 21.924' E027° 28.912'. Detailed directions and the request form for an overnight stay can be found here.

Visitors who want to see chimpanzees up close and seek the untouched wilderness will not regret the trip to the remote area. For miles, the Kafue River - on which boat trips can be taken - runs along Chimfunshi's northern border.

Chimfunshi is also located in a bird paradise described by ornithologists as particularly rich in species.

Chimfunshi is open 365 days a year, including holidays.
