New projects are constantly being proposed and implemented at Chimfunshi. These are designed to improve the care of the chimpanzees and the lives of the villagers of Chimfunshi:
Construction of new outdoor enclosures
The ‘project planning’ to construct four new spacious outdoor enclosures, is currently in process on site at Chimfunshi. This will be the most ambitious and complex project to date, including the challenge to construct high electric fences, various respective buildings as well as cages to feed, give medicine, observe and introduce new chimpanzees into the enclosure.
Construction of the veterinary clinic
The planning to build a adequate veterinary clinic is underway. The resident veterinarian Thalitha who fortunately joined the team a year ago will utilize the clinic to ensure the regular and permanent medical care for the chimps at Chimfunshi.
The goal: to give each chimpanzee at Chimfunshi a thorough medical check-up. The heart, blood work, teeth and possible pregnancies were checked in each chimpanzee. After some initial bumps along the way, everything necessary could be built and furnished: a small laboratory with scales, an electrocardiogram, operating room, ultrasound machine and much more.
Constuction of a quarantine station
Our quarantine station is no longer sufficient for the new arrivals, who must first be quarantined, so as not to endanger our chimpanzees with external diseases. Before the new chimpanzees are integrated into one of the chimpanzee groups, not only do they need to be thoroughly screened and vaccinated, they also unfortunately have to stay separate for a few weeks from the other chimpanzees.top
