Amusement Park cancels Chimpanzee Show
17. August 2017
The German amusement park “Schwabenpark” wants to part with its chimpanzees, according to a press release. This means that one of the main attractions of the park – the chimpanzee show – will no longer be available. This show has been controversial for a long time: In it, chimps dressed as humans cycle around and smoke. The amusement park is thus reacting to the demand of animal rights activist Cornelia Jäger. The park will take its chimps – that have been its flagship for 40 years – out of their program until 2022. At the moment the Schwabenpark is housing 37 chimpanzees between 5 and 45 years old. We are very glad with this decision and hope that all chimps will find an accommodation in which they can live and thrive in species-appropriate conditions.
